This Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service are written in plain language for clarity. They are legally binding documents. If you do not agree, please do not use LawEngine.
Privacy Policy, in full
Short Version
- We collect what we need to run LawEngine. That includes account information, technical and usage data, legal research inputs, uploaded documents, outputs, audit receipts, hashes, and related metadata.
- We use that information to provide and improve the Service. We use it to authenticate users, run searches and verification, audit results, prevent abuse, debug issues, improve coverage and reliability, measure product behavior, process payments, communicate with users, and operate the business.
- User-submitted legal content is not used to train LawEngine models. We also do not sell submitted legal content.
- Retention depends on the feature you choose. Upload a document uses temporary private file storage and returns an ephemeral answer. Verify Brief has a separate, expressly disclosed audit-retention workflow.
- Marketing tools should not receive legal work product. We do not intentionally send raw legal queries, uploaded files, extracted text, legal answers, citations, quote receipts, or full verification/search responses to marketing or advertising tools.
- Only submit sensitive material if you are authorized to share it with LawEngine. This includes confidential, privileged, client-identifying, health, trade secret, or other sensitive material.
- You can request access, correction, or deletion. Email support@lawengine.ai.
1. Who We Are
This Privacy Policy explains how Law Engine Inc. ("Company," "we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, shares, and protects information in connection with LawEngine (the "Service"), accessible at lawengine.ai.
Questions about this policy or your data can be directed to support@lawengine.ai.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Account and Contact Information
When you create an account or contact us, we may collect:
- name;
- email address;
- authentication, account, plan, and access status;
- firm, organization, or role information you choose to provide;
- support messages and other communications you send us.
2.2 Product Content
LawEngine is a legal research and citation-verification product. To provide the Service, we may collect and process:
- legal research questions and prompts;
- citations, quotations, excerpts, and legal text submitted for verification;
- uploaded documents and extracted text;
- generated answers, verification results, audit artifacts, receipts, hashes, and source-match metadata;
- request, response, status, error, and timing metadata related to product use.
We treat this category as sensitive product content. Do not submit confidential, privileged, client-identifying, health, trade secret, or other sensitive material unless you are authorized to share it with LawEngine for the purposes described in this policy and our Terms of Service.
2.3 Usage and Technical Information
When you use the Service, we may collect:
- timestamps, routes, feature names, and event counts;
- browser, device, operating-system, and user-agent information;
- session, authentication, consent, and security identifiers;
- hashed, truncated, or otherwise limited network identifiers where appropriate;
- referrer, campaign, landing-page, UTM, and attribution information;
- success/failure states, generic error codes, latency buckets, file type and size buckets, rate-limit events, and similar operational metadata.
2.4 Payment Information
If you purchase a paid plan or start checkout, we may collect plan, subscription, checkout, invoice, receipt, tax, customer-portal, and payment-status information. We do not collect full payment-card numbers directly. Payment-card information is handled by our payment processor.
2.5 Marketing and Public-Page Information
On public, marketing, acquisition, pricing, sign-in, sign-up, and similar non-legal-input pages, we may collect page views, route changes, referrers, campaign information, organization-level visitor signals where available, button clicks, signup attempts, checkout events, and related attribution information.
3. How We Use Information
We use information to:
- provide, operate, and personalize the Service;
- authenticate accounts and manage access, tiers, subscriptions, trials, campaigns, and manual grants;
- process legal research, citation verification, document upload, audit, and source-match requests;
- retain audit artifacts where the selected feature says they are kept to confirm what was submitted, checked, and returned;
- prevent, detect, and investigate abuse, scraping, fraud, security incidents, and misuse;
- debug issues, improve coverage, evaluate accuracy, and develop features;
- measure conversion and product behavior, including signup-to-first-search and first-search-to-repeat-use or checkout paths;
- process payments, subscriptions, invoices, receipts, taxes, cancellations, and customer-portal requests;
- communicate with you about your account, transactions, support requests, product updates, and policy changes;
- comply with legal obligations and protect our rights, users, and the public.
User-submitted legal content is not used to train LawEngine models.
6. Retention and Deletion
We retain information for as long as reasonably needed to provide, secure, audit, debug, support, improve, and operate the Service, comply with law, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, prevent abuse, and protect service integrity.
Retention differs by product workflow:
- Upload a document. The uploaded object is placed in private temporary storage and used to extract text. LawEngine requests deletion from active document storage as soon as extraction succeeds or fails; if deletion is not confirmed, automated cleanup retries it. LawEngine does not persist extracted text or the answer as saved document history. During the active job, extracted text is held process-locally and sent to LawEngine's model provider to generate the answer. Unused or abandoned uploads are also automatically cleaned up. Our operational target is that no temporary uploaded object remains in active storage beyond twenty-four (24) hours. After deletion is confirmed and the workflow reaches a terminal state, routine content-free operational metadata is ordinarily retained for thirty (30) days to enforce quotas, investigate safe error codes, and monitor the cleanup promise. A control record may remain longer while deletion is unresolved or when a limited security, legal, abuse, or disaster-recovery exception applies.
- Verify Brief. Verify Brief is a separate audit workflow. When you expressly consent in that feature, the uploaded file, extracted text, assessment, and audit metadata may be retained privately for audit, dispute verification, product improvement, and service integrity under the disclosure shown at upload. That retention is separate from the temporary upload lifecycle described above.
- Other product workflows. Search, Verify, account, security, billing, support, and operational records are retained for the periods reasonably needed for the purposes described in this policy and the feature-specific notice, if any.
Deletion from active temporary document storage does not mean that the file was never processed or that a copy cannot remain temporarily in a service provider's restricted backup or disaster-recovery systems. Legal holds, security investigations, valid legal process, abuse prevention, billing obligations, and disaster-recovery practices may also require limited retention beyond the ordinary feature lifecycle.
You may request deletion at any time by emailing support@lawengine.ai from the email address associated with your account. We will handle verified requests promptly, subject to legal, security, backup, audit, abuse-prevention, service-integrity, and dispute-resolution limits. Deidentified, aggregated, security, billing, and audit records may remain where permitted by law.
7. Security
We use commercially reasonable safeguards designed to protect information, including managed encryption in transit and at rest, private storage, access controls, authentication controls, network and security controls, restricted administrative access, backups, hashed or truncated identifiers where appropriate, access records, monitoring, and vendor security commitments.
Access to raw user legal content is limited to people and systems that need it to operate, support, secure, audit, debug, or improve the Service.
No internet service is perfectly secure. If we become aware of a security incident that affects your personal information, we will notify you consistent with applicable law.
8. Your Choices and Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- access information we hold about you;
- correct inaccurate information;
- delete information;
- receive information in a portable format;
- object to or restrict certain processing;
- opt out of certain marketing, advertising, or sharing activities.
To make a request, email support@lawengine.ai with the account email address you want to act on. We will respond within thirty (30) days, or sooner if the law requires. If we cannot fulfill a request, we will explain why.
9. Children
LawEngine is not directed at children under 18 and is not intended for use by minors. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have collected information from a minor, email support@lawengine.ai and we will delete it where required by law.
10. International Users
The Service is operated from the United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States or in other locations where our service providers operate. Privacy laws in those locations may differ from those in your home country.
11. California Privacy Notice
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act, may give you additional rights, including rights to know, access, delete, correct, and opt out of certain sale or sharing of personal information.
We do not sell submitted legal content for money. On public and acquisition pages, we may use or share identifiers, device and browser information, referral or campaign data, and public-page activity with analytics, advertising, attribution, visitor-identification, and marketing providers. To exercise a California privacy right, including an opt-out request, email support@lawengine.ai.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will provide at least thirty (30) days' advance notice by email to the address associated with your account and, where practical, through the Service itself.
Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of an update means you accept the updated policy. If you do not agree to an update, stop using the Service before the effective date.
