Founded by Stephen Murphy.
Stephen Murphy is the founder and CEO of LawEngine. Trained in mechanical engineering and mathematics, with an Executive MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, he previously led financial planning and analysis at Zillow and finance at two acquired technology companies.
His engineering work won the Jetson Prize, a Special Technology Prize in Google’s Gemma 3n Impact Challenge.
Rule 703

LawEngine also comes from firsthand contact with the legal system. In 2026, Stephen submitted a Rule 3 proposal to amend the applicant language in Illinois Supreme Court Rule 703. The Court adopted the change 47 days later.
